T-Mobile, Garmin Announce New Android Phone Gadg
The Garminfone is fairly ordinary in its technical specs. The device has a 3.5-inch multi-touch display,slim bluetooth keyboard, a 3 megapixel camera, music player, Wi-Fi and all the standard Google services such as Gmail, YouTube and Google Maps.

All of this would have been impressive had it not been for the fact that Google has built many of these features into the latest version of the Android operating system. Android 2.1 has turn-by-turn navigation and is now available on devices such as Motorola Droid and HTC Nexus One.

But where the Garminfone hopes to shine is with its navigation centric design. The smartphone has voice and on-screen turn-by-turn directions for walking, driving or public transit. It also offers real-time traffic and weather information,ultra case iphone, nearby gas prices and allows users to to record custom voice directions from family and friends.

The Android phone called Garminfone will be available exclusively on T-Mobile but the two companies have not disclosed pricing or availability.

Upon skipping the turn it advised me to take the next illegal turn. It did the same in NYC. The lesson? Just because you know how to make great maps doesn’t mean you know how to give great driving directions.
I love using google maps but people who say things like the days of Garmin and Tom-Tom are over don’t use a GPS very often. My droid is a great phone that does almost everything well. But if I need actual directions in a town I’ve never been in before or I’m driving cross country, I’m using my trusty Garmin. Why? Two reasons; I don’t have to worry about phone coverage, and the maps are stored in my Garmin. That’s why the Garmin phone, as a GPS device which also has a phone,4 pin firewire cable, is better than a phone which has a GPS application. Until google maps accuracy in DRIVING directions are improved,lace wedding dresses, and the maps for the USA are pre-downloaded I’ll stick to having a phone and a GPS device. caserose Why doesn’t T-Mobile just get in with Apple so I can get an Iphone? To stand out, Garmin needs to offer a really zippy device that blows consumers away in either its technical prowess or ease of use. Or its latest phone might just meet the fate of its predecessor, the Nuvifone G60, a device that lacked charm and was difficult to use.
