Brad Pitt Plays Sean Penn's Dad In Terrence Malick's 'The Tree Of Life' Trailer

The best trailers are the ones that pique our interest in a film without giving too much away, and in that I think we can all say that the trailer for Terrence Malick's " ipad stylus The Tree of Life" has succeeded. Melding gorgeous shots of outer space, Earth and the elements with the intimate story of the life of a man named Jack, the home-movie quality of the filmmaking, dramatic narration and use of Smetana's "The Moldau," the trailer certainly  ipad dock has an epic quality. And, considering that we've heard that this film will quite literally cover the history of the universe, I think that thetrailer imparts some of that sense of scope. Sean Penn stars as the adult version of Jack, who is a lost soul in the modern world. The film follows led watches his development as an 11-year-old living in the Midwest during the 1950s when the world still seems full of wonder. But as he grows older and begins to see some of life's suffering, he begins to view the world as a labyrinth that he cannot escape. Surprisingly enough, despite the cryptic nature of the trailer, all of that pretty much can be garnered from watching the teaser for the film. Brad Pitt and Jessica Chastain star as Jack's parents, with Pitt's character using a firm hand to teach Jack "the world's way," while Chastain's character tries to teach him love and mercy and to see "with the eyes of his soul." An early description of the film from Malick somewhat fleshes out the storyline for us. "Framing this gpad story is that of adult Jack, a lost soul in a modern world, seeking to discover amid the changing scenes of time that which does not change: the eternal scheme of which we are a part," Malick said. "When he sees all that has gone into our world’s preparation, each thing appears a miracle -- precious, incomparable. Jack, with his new understanding, is able to forgive his father and take his first steps on the path of life." He adds, "The story ends in hope, acknowledging the beauty ChangJiang W008 and joy in all things, in the everyday and above all in the family — our first school — the only place that most of us learn the truth about the world and ourselves, or discover life's single most important lesson, of unselfish love." So it seems that in Jack's journey for self-discovery he will uncover these secrets of the universe, STAR A3000 which is probably where all those amazing landscape shots come into play. The juxtaposition of these shots in the trailer surprisingly works, despite the lack of connection to the story, and we ipad keyboards can assume that the continuity of editing continues into the finished product. It's Sergei Eisentein's theory of montage at its finest.
